My Vibe Posts Are More Popular Than My Book Reviews and That's Okay!
When I originally started blogging under the mantle of "History Will Say..." the intention was to write solely about Sapphic books, with maybe a few other hobbies thrown in here and there. I expanded to generally queer reads as I found I had lots of thoughts about other LGBTQ+ books to share. When I was still on Wordpress, I kept on theme pretty well and generally had around a dozen reads per post, maybe closer to thirty if it was a popular book or author.
Since moving to Bear, I've felt more free to return to the pantsing1 type of posts of Ye Good Olde Internet; expressing myself with little concern for theme or professionalism. Part of this freedom likely comes from having disabled my LinkedIn account after they kept sending me targeted ICE recruitment ads and slews of AI-generated job postings for jobs that didn't actually exist. With my book reviews no longer connected to LinkedIn, I no longer have to worry about my CEO seeing me say "What the fuck, Microsoft?" in a totally fair and justified response to the on-going mass lay-offs of the last several years and instructing someone who is not my boss to "coach" me on appropriate professional online etiquette2.
I think part of it also has to do with Bear as a platform, though. It feels more personal. Simpler. Less like producing content and more like writing. My filters are coming off, and oddly enough, those are the posts that get the most attention.
Am I bummed that the book reviews get less hits and likes? I mean, a little3. But also, it's very telling that the posts in which I am the most Me are the ones people respond to. It highlights the things we have in common: we hate apartment managers and AI and we love vibing and the fuck word4.

Thanks to Skryblans for reminding me of this term from the days of yore and for writing about vibe blogging, which prompted me in turn to engage in more of it.↩
Because apparently I speak on behalf of the entire company even though I'm a virtual nobody with like four connections, one of whom is my mother.↩
Go look at my reviews! Read the books I recommend! I worked hard on those bitches!↩
