Queer January 2026 Book Releases
With very little preamble, here's a list of books releasing in January that I'm looking forward to reading, because I don't want to talk about 2025 or anything that has happened in my country within the last few days. :)
Jackson Alone by Jose Ando (January 6th)
- Four Black Japanese gay men team up against a culture where discrimination is deep-seated and revenge is just a click away. I mean, come on. You can't write a better blurb.
- Identity switching and gay vengeance!
Into the Midnight Wood by Alexandra McCollum (January 13th)
- An "irredeemable eccentric" and the fed up roommate who copes with his ridiculousness by making a list of all the shit that's wrong with him
- Magic and weddings and another gorgeous cover
Is This a Cry for Help? by Emily Austin (January 13th)
- Great cover
- Queer ladies living the dream as a librarian and a book binder with the most perfect house interrupted by the devastating grief of loss and the too-familiar attacks against intellectual progress and freedom at the hands of bigots
Fire Sword & Sea by Vanessa Riley (January 13th)
- Late 1600s Caribbean; I'm a sucker for a historical novel and have a particular soft spot for queer tales from the Caribbean thanks to my Boriqua gf
- Delicious beloved gender fuckery - AFABs disguised as men at sea!
Hemlock by Melissa Faliveno (January 20th)
- "Queer gothic novel" gets me every fucking time. I am as predictable as the tide.
- Creepy cabin in the woods, potentially unreliable narrator, blurring reality, and changing bodies
Persona by Aoife Josie Clements (January 27th)
- Trans woman "feral shut-in" faces the terrors of capitalism and internet culture; relatable af
- This sentence existing: A seance of coked-up artists summons unearthly forces in a studio apartment.
The Wolf and His King by Finn Longman (January 27th)
- Lycanthropes and courtly intrigue
- Based on a rhyming literary romance by the 12th century poet Marie de France, whose work inspired Le Morte d'Arthur
